How to care for Coleus ~ a growing guide:All Coleus prefer evenly moist garden soil.If planting in a container use a time released fertilizer, like my three secrets.In garden beds if your soil is rich, organic & drains well the plants should be fine without extra nutrition.
Pinch the tips of the stems regularly to encourage branching and compact growth.Hardy only to Zone 10, Coleus cannot withstand frost without damage.In colder climates, plants can be overwintered on a sunny windowsill, or take tip cuttings in early fall to start new plants. Coleus root very readily in a cup of water.
