Estate Sale Treasures - new ways to use old things

estate1.jpg

Feeling refreshed and organized, off I went with a car load to donate to my thrift.

Singing along to the radio, thinking how good it feels to have less stuff, I spotted the sign.

I tried to ignore it - but the siren's song was too enticing...

ERRRR!!…went the brakes, and as if on automatic pilot my car backed up to read it up close.  Yup, it said...

"ESTATE SALE"

But it is Thursday, isn't it?

11 am on a Thursday not prime time for an estate sale - probably an old sign.

But then I spotted a satisfied customer leaving with a brass floor lamp.

I can't fit a floor lamp in this car.

Just pop in for a look see…since I am here.

A an inkwell, pen, 2 butter pats, a rolling pin, yardsticks, greeting cards & a little trinket cup later, I scampered back to my packed car.

It all fit.  There is always room in my car & my heart for orphaned treasures.

The ink well & pen from Higgins Ink in Brooklyn NY reminds me of stories my mom tells of her one room school house education. And I was born in Brooklyn NY.  It will sit on my desk & maybe hold a tiny flower now & again.

The butter pats will serve kalamata olives to me, along side a glass of crisp white wine.  A stylish & controlled way to eat them as only a few will fit on the tiny plates - good thing there are two!

The yard sticks will join the others I have collected in a big bucket.

The greeting cards will likely end up in a holiday craft.  Edith going to my mother in law, Edith Wilkniss.

The trinket holder is Lenox & was $1.00.  Nice place for rings & such.

So a balance was struck - I donated what I no longer needed ~ treasure to someone else.

And I scored treasure from another's trash.

The circle of life I guess…I think I got the better deal - can u stand how cute that ink well is?!
