It's not what you've got - it's how you use it...

When you find yourself with a bag of lemons and just shy of a yard of fabric - now you'll know what to do.

'Cause after all, it isn't what you got ~ it's how you use it.

Post holiday - pre-spring is a slow time for decorating.

I kinda like that.  The excess of the holidays wears on me after a few weeks and I long to "clear the slate", so to speak.

But then all the stuff is gone and it looks pretty bare.

The bareness struck me the other day, so I poked around to see what I had on hand.  Not too much...

  • almost a yard of gray fabric that I had fashioned into a makeshift runner on THIS table;
  • a bag of lemons;
  • a couple of bunches of grocery store flowers.

That'll do...

I folded the edges of the 'runner', concealed that it is actually cut in half in the middle with a big platter and kinda ruched it.

The key is the ruching - you know, bunching it up a bit here & there.  Makes the 'runner' it more interesting and three dimensional.

Then I nestled some lemons in the ruched bits.

Arranged the flowers with some loose greens from the yard in a big white pitcher.

For the final touch, I spilled the rest of the lemons onto the platter.

The lemons smell wonderful & the cheery yellow chases away any winter blues.

Decor doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive.  It is all in the way you pull it together.
