Memory is a wonderful & amazing thing...

...keeping an account of all the beautiful moments of your life at the ready for reminiscing and filing some of the other stuff on the down low.

Stuff like the act of child birth and living in through a hardcore renovation.

I venture to say, if we could clearly remember those two experiences there would be a lot fewer people in the world and hardly any renovated old houses.

Happily the mother of two girls and foggy on the details of actually living amidst the rubble, I was taking pictures of my master bedroom a few weeks ago for a post.

Then I vaguely recalled "didn't I take some photos & even video in here before"

Oh my!  I did...

I remembered the kitchen video but not the one I am sharing today or the other one of the 'jungle room'.

I'll show you the 'jungle' video when I share the master bathroom.

Today let's have a walk together down memory lane to my master bedroom.

Below is how the master bedroom looked during the real estate "walk thru".

You know, the last time you tour the house before you close the deal.  I am NOT KIDDING ~ I told you he hadn't actually packed up anything ~ this is what it looked like.

This is what it looks like now...

In the before stage we slept in the living room on a sad pull out couch.

All the while, hearing creepy, scratching sounds in the walls.  In the walls, until one night the dingo, as I came to call it, figured how to get out.

That night may have been when my memory card snapped.

Ahhh...all's well that ends well.

We slayed the dingo and went on to sleep in our bed...eventually.

As they say a picture is worth a thousand word, so a video must be valued at a million at least. Good, as I had no words I as watched...except maybe 'am I nuts?'

As I explain in the video, the room had its share of challenges with no closet, the third floor staircase encroaching, no room for proper night stands and all that stuff to remove.

Not a lot of square footage, but we used what we have wisely.  Adding a barn door for the bathroom and notching into the studs for an unusual, but workable 'nightstand'.

To hear more about that nightstand solution and other unique options, listen in to our podcast chat all about the topic. Click the arrow below:

The master bedroom has changed a bit even since I took these after photos last week.

I decided a bigger plant was needed in the corner.  I ended up with a real ficus, but really contemplated this faux ficus tree.  It gets great reviews & will live on!

Swapped out an the woven fabric lidded trunk for an AMAZING vintage rattan lidded basket with leather straps & buckles.

Add also added two empty frames, one gray & the other creamy white in the corner above.  I don't like to see outlets.  The frames work casually propped up against each other & don't block the floor vent.

A decorator is never done!  Complete, but never done.

I LOVE this rug so much I added to my my Amazon shop.  Check it out HERE.

I hope you enjoyed sharing this blast from my recent past!

As jarring as that video was to me, it is great to see where you have been, enjoy where you are and plan for the next big thing.

In the looong days of our restoration of our 1886 home, I had no idea I would soon become an author, then a podcaster and now a...

Oops, I almost told you!!  Yvonne & Anita would be bummed if I let it slip without them, so I will zip my lips.  Maybe I'll go have a lie down in my bedroom.  It looks inviting to me and all this talk of renovation is tiring me out! ;)
